***Palmetto Morning Presented by Jim Dyke & Associates***
THIS FIRST — The Charleston GOP Gubernatorial debate is in the books. It was a long night filled with hot mics and fancy suits. The hosts seemed a little more interested in our Governor, U.S. Senators and football coaches than the four Republican candidates on stage. Haley was singularly focused on Barrett, taking every opportunity to batter the Congressman for his bank bailout vote. Barrett stood his ground on the vote, said he doesn’t regret it and pointed out that he has opposed more Administration spending than any other Congressman save one. Bauer stuck to his guns on recent controversial comments, even giving the crowd a lesson in “parallels” versus “metaphors.” McMaster wouldn’t “take the bait” and attack fellow GOPer Lindsey Graham. Bauer and Haley opt for DeMint over Graham, but only Haley would have voted to censure the senior Senator. Thanks to everyone that followed our live-tweets from the press gallery. Our thumbs are sore, so we’ll make it brief this morning.

Jim Davenport of the AP: “Disgraced South Carolina Gov. Mark Sanford was feet from the stage, but cast a large shadow over the four Republicans debating Thursday how they’d fill the shoes of the man who wrecked his political and personal life with an affair that made him a national joke.”
The P&C’s Robert Behre chalked it up to “Differences of opinion”
